This VoIP service introduction is designed to simplify the VoIP service technology so that consumers considering its use are better informed and familiar
with the varying degrees of available services, hardware requirements, and general methods of setup. In a nutshell, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls through the use of a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular analog telephone line.
(Note: high speed dial up Internet
service is not considered a true broadband connection and will not work with
many VoIP service providers because
high speed dial up Internet service does not use the same digital technology as a Cable or DSL broadband
Internet connection). Some VoIP service providers only allow calls
to be made to other subscribers within that same service and is commonly
referred to as in-network calling, while others allow calls to be made to anyone who has a telephone number. Moreover,
whereas some VoIP service will only work through a computer or a specifically designed VoIP telephone, other services allow a standard run of the mill
phone to be used through what is called a VoIP service adaptor. The VoIP service adaptor converts digital voice data packets into an analog signal which
is what regular land-line analog telephones require.
VoIP Service Technology Benefits: VoIP service is more cost effective than traditional phone service and comes with features that are not
available through traditional phone services. Along with low domestic and international phone rates, an impressive array of special phone features
are available through VoIP service. Typical VoIP service plans allow you to choose your own preferred free local dialing US area code, regardless
of where you live. You can add a virtual phone number in any area code, forwarded to your phone. Voicemail messages can be retrieved from your phone
or even be emailed to you. You can even add a toll-free number.
Note: An electrical power outage or a broadband Internet
service provider outage will prevent operation of the VoIP
service, including for emergency purposes (e.g. calling 911).

VoIP Phone-Based Features:
Keep Your Existing Phone Number - With Verizon VoiceWing VoIP service you have a choice to keep your existing phone number and area code or select any available phone number
and area code of your liking regardless of where you physically live. The
advantage of keeping your existing number means that you won't have to notify
everyone that you have a new number.
Back-Up Number - VoiceWing provides an opportunity for you to set up
and save a contact number (perhaps your cell phone or work number) where your
calls can be forwarded in the event of a power outage or if your broadband
connection fails.
Repeat Dial (*66) - Repeat Dial, also known as *66, automatically
redials the last telephone number you dialed. If the person you are attempting
to reach is busy or not available, repeat dial will continue to make the
connection for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the re-dial attempt will be
cancelled even if the connection was never made. You can return calls to more
than one busy number at a time, as well as make other outbound calls while
repeat dial is trying to attempt connections. Repeat dial will not automatically
redial international numbers.
Caller ID - Caller ID lets you see number of an incoming call. The
caller ID screen on your traditional phone will display the numbers of most
callers.
Return Call (*69) - Return Call, also known as *69, allows you to quickly return any incoming call, even if you didn’t answer the call. Simply press *69 on your Verizon VoiceWing phone and it will redial the number of the most recent incoming call. The returned call is treated as any call made from your Verizon VoiceWing
phone.
Caller ID Block (*67) - Caller ID Block allows you to block your
telephone number from being displayed in the Caller ID of the person you are
calling. Caller ID Block works only for the duration of one call. After that
call is completed, Caller ID will return to its previous status.
Speed Dial 10 - Speed dial saves up to ten of your most frequently dialed numbers to single digit short cuts. Speed Dial numbers can be saved on the VoiceWing Personal Account Manager, or directly on your VoiceWing
Phone.
Call Forwarding - Verizon VoiceWing offers several ways to forward incoming calls from your Verizon VoiceWing phone to another phone. Unconditional call forwarding allows you to directly transfer your calls from your Verizon VoiceWing phone number to another phone number. Conditional call forwarding gives you three different ways to activate call forwarding. You can forward calls when your Verizon VoiceWing phone line is busy, when there is no answer on your Verizon VoiceWing phone, or if your Verizon VoiceWing phone happens to be off-line.
By saving call forwarding settings on your Personal Account Manager, you can quickly re-direct Verizon VoiceWing calls to another number directly from your Personal Account Manager, for example your wireless phone number. Using your Personal Account Manager, call forwarding can be enabled even when you are away from your Verizon VoiceWing Phone.
All call forwarding options will disable your Verizon VoiceWing voice mail, but
you can continue to make outgoing calls while call forwarding is activated.
Three-Way Calling - Connect three parties together at one time, anywhere in the world. With three-way calling, you can add a third person into your call by pressing the flash button on your phone, dialing the telephone number of the third person, and then pressing the flash button again. All three parties are connected instantly.
To disconnect, any person can leave the conversation by hanging up their phone, and the two remaining people will remain connected. To disconnect the entire three-way call, simply hang up. To avoid placing a three-way call accidentally, hang-up for at least three seconds between every call.
All minutes used for a three-way telephone call will be included as part of your overall Verizon VoiceWing
calling plan.
Call Waiting - Call waiting allows you to accept an incoming call
while you're already talking to another caller. A special tone lets you know
that a second caller is trying to reach you. The second caller will hear a ring
until you answer. To put the first caller on hold and answer the second caller,
press the flash key/switch hook once. You can toggle back and forth between both
calls as many times as you would like by pressing the flash button.
Voice Mail - Callers can leave messages in your Verizon VoiceWing voice mail box when you're away from your phone or unable to take a call. Just like a traditional answering machine, Verizon VoiceWing allows you to customize the greeting on your voice mail box, and to configure when the voice mail will be activated.
After a message has been left, a special stutter tone will be played when you pick your Verizon VoiceWing
phone. This special tone indicates that an unheard voice mail message has been
left for you. Messages can be saved in your voice mail box for up to 14 days so
that you can return to review them again.
Call Waiting with Caller ID - Along with a special call waiting tone
that indicates a second caller is trying to reach you while you are already
talking, call waiting with caller ID will display the phone number of the second
caller. You can choose to accept the second incoming call by pressing the flash
button.
Voice Portal - Voice Over IP is a technology that enables
transmission of voice in a digital form in packets over the Internet.
Fax Capability - VoiceWing now supports both voice and fax capability
for no additional charge. As with a standard phone line, while a fax is being
sent or received, you will not be able to make or receive calls.
Do Not Disturb - Do Not Disturb prevents your VoiceWing phone from
ringing and will automatically forward all calls directly to Voice Mail.
VoIP Internet-Based Features:
Address Book - Your personal address book stores the information for your most frequent contacts directly on your Verizon VoiceWing Personal Account Manager. In the personal address book, save telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of individual contacts, arrange contacts in convenient groups, click-to-dial any telephone number, or send an e-mail directly from your Personal Account Manager.
The Verizon VoiceWing address book works with MS® Outlook so that you can
re-populate information from one contact list right into your address book.
Incoming Call Block - Gives you the ability to block up to 20
unwanted numbers from placing inbound calls to your number. You can select a
number from the call logs or enter a specific number to be blocked.
Address Book Synchronization - You can synchronize your current address books with your VoiceWing Address Book to ensure all contact information is up-do-date. Verizon VoiceWing
VoIP service supports Address Book Synchronization with:
-Microsoft® Outlook 97, 98, 2000 and 2003
-Microsoft® Outlook Express 4.01 and 5.0
-Lotus Notes® 4.6, 5.0 and 6.5
-PalmTM desktop application 4.0 or later Customer will need Synchronization
software that can be installed from the Personal Account Manager.
Internet Directory Look-up - Internet Directory Look-up from the Personal Account Manager via SuperPages.com.
Anonymous Call Rejection - Reject any inbound call from anonymous
parties who have explicitly restricted their Caller ID information.
Permanent Caller ID Block - No need to use *67 each time you make a call, simply set up Permanent Caller ID Block and all of your calls are anonymous until you disable the feature. You can deactivate it on a per call basis, with most VoiceWing
adapters, by dialing *82 prior to making the call. This allows your Caller ID
information to be passed. Once you hang up, your Caller ID information will be
blocked for all future calls unless you dial *82 before making another call.
Call Logs - Call logs itemize all calling activity on your Verizon VoiceWing phone. The logs list the caller name, telephone number, date, time of day, physical location, and duration of every incoming and outgoing call made during your current billing cycle. Quickly see if calls are labeled as domestic, international, calling card, or placed from an alternate telephone number on your account. And from the call logs, you can easily transfer contact information directly into your personal address book, or click on a telephone number and immediately place a call using click-to-dial with your Verizon VoiceWing
phone.
Schedule Call Back - Schedule call back allows you to set up a specific day and time for your VoiceWing
Phone to automatically make a call.
Click-to-dial - Click-to-dial automatically dials any telephone number that is saved in your call logs or address book. By clicking on a phone number, the Verizon VoiceWing adapter will dial the numbers. When dialing is complete, your Verizon VoiceWing
phone will ring, indicating that you should now pick up the handset. Once you
pick up the handset, the line of the person you're calling will ring.
Simultaneous Ring - Never miss another important call. When you activate Simultaneous Ring, any call you receive will ring on up to three unique phone numbers plus the VoiceWing
number, and the first phone that's answered connects to the caller.
Enhanced Call Forwarding w/Scheduling - Directs calls from your VoiceWing Phone to another telephone number at anytime. Enhanced Call Forwarding allows VoiceWing users to schedule call forwarding for a specific date and time of day, or even as a recurring event. By establishing Enhanced Call Forwarding settings on your Personal Account Manager - like your wireless phone number or your office phone number - you can quickly re-direct VoiceWing
calls to another number directly from the Personal Account Manager. Email alerts
will remind you on you when a call in your scheduled Call Forward is about to
take place.
Visual Voice Mail - Like an answering machine or a standard voice mail account, visual voice mail captures all voice mail messages left on your Verizon VoiceWing account. The benefit of visual voice mail is that it displays information about these messages on your Verizon VoiceWing
Personal Account Manager. In addition to providing the date and time of each
message, visual voice mail also attaches audio files of the messages so that
they can be played directly from the Personal Account Manager. Review, sort, and
save visual voice mail messages from any computer at anytime.
